Two-Day Intensive

 
This two-day intensive mimics the low-residency Writing for Children and Young Adults Program at Hamline University and features lectures from four accomplished faculty. 
 
  • "Writing in First Person: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them," by two-time Newbery Medalist Erin Entrada Kelly
  • "First Chapters: Entwining Tension and Exposition," by two-time National Book Award Finalist Eliot Schrefer
  • "Character: Creating Emotional Depth and Internal Plot Structures," by Pura Bulpre Medalist Ari Tison
  • "How to Outline Your Novel without Freaking Out," by NAACP Image Award Finalist Sherri Smith

There will also be generative writing time and ample Q&A.
 
This virtual workshop is designed for writers at all levels. Cost is $300.

Feedback Option


Feedback on your first 20 pages is available on a first-come, first-served basis at an additional cost of $100, to be billed separately. There are only ten spots available. Audio feedback  of ~five minutes will be provided by one of our faculty members. (Please note, we are not able to accommodate personal requests for faculty).

Hamline MFAC Scholarship
​
Hamline MFAC will offer one scholarship to a student in need. If you are unable to pay the registration fee and would like to be considered for a scholarship, please submit a brief summary (~100 words) explaining why you want to take this workshop to workshops@erinentradakelly.com. Your submission will be reviewed by Hamline MFAC faculty.
